Bantul, 25 October 2025 – PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) collaborated with Reispirasi, a community organisation concerned with sea turtle conservation, to carry out an environmental awareness campaign in the form of a turtle hatchling release. Themed “Healthy Nature, Healthy Nation,” the turtle hatchling release event took place at Samas Beach, Bantul, Yogyakarta, on 25 October 2025.
“This is an excellent collaboration in supporting marine ecosystem protection. The breeding and release of hatchlings carried out today plays an important role in maintaining the sustainability of the increasingly threatened sea turtle population,” explained SFD Arie Wibowo, Kalbe Corporate Sustainability Assistant Manager.
Meanwhile, Abi Nisaka, Head of Corporate Sustainability at Kalbe, also sees the importance of protecting the environment as an effort to promote national health. “Kalbe views efforts to improve the nation’s health as not only improving human health, but also the health of the environment. In line with the Bersama Sehatkan Bangsa sustainability commitment, Kalbe views biodiversity conservation as very important,” explained Abi.
As is well known, hatchlings are baby sea turtles that are protected species, both in Indonesia and internationally. The protection of hatchlings plays an important role considering their low survival rate. Furthermore, adult hatchlings that become sea turtles play a vital role as guardians of the marine ecosystem. However, many factors threaten the sea turtle population, such as egg theft, coastal habitat destruction, plastic pollution, and accidental capture when using fishing gear.
During the hatchling release event organised by Kalbe and Reispirasi, more than 60 hatchlings were released from Samas Beach into the sea. This adds to the number of hatchlings released from the Bantul region, reaching more than 2,000 throughout 2025.
“We continue to raise public awareness about the importance of sea turtle conservation, which has resulted in over 15,000 hatchlings being released. We would also like to thank Kalbe for helping to make this positive initiative a success,” explained Deny, representing Reispirasi.
